When you hire labor only Moving Help, the movers do not have any professional moving equipment or tools with them. The movers rely on the customer to arrange for tools, blankets and dollies. A professional moving equipment could be arranged with Ottawa Best Movers at extra cost. Just mention your request while booking with us.

The hourly rate for the moving crew is based on the number of movers and trucks required. Our moving company always assigns the optimal number of movers to every job in order to minimize cost and maximize productivity. For local moves that originate in Ottawa, we charge a flat travel time of 60 minutes, plus the number of hours upon unloading and completion of the move. If there is more than one origin or destination, the job time starts when movers leave the office of Ottawa Best Movers and completes with unloading at the final destination.

A local move, by our standards, is any move that begins and ends within radius of 20 kilometers of Ottawa’s City Hall. This applies to moves within Ottawa and is based on the crew travelling by the fastest route. The fees for a local move will incorporate a standard one-hour charge for travel time at the contracted rate. The charge for travel time is to cover the cost of getting the crew to the job, refueling, and returning to the office at the end of the job.

For example:

You hire a 2-man moving crew at $150/hour to move your belongings. Your move starts in Kanata at 9:00 AM. Your crew finishes unloading at your new home in Kanata 5 minute away from old address at 1:00 PM. The elapsed time for your move is 4 hours. The total time billed for would be 5 hours (the elapsed time for your move plus one hour for travel time to/from your location). Your bill totals to 5 hours x $150 = $750 + tax.

General time estimates

The following list represents the estimated time required for standard moves. The estimated times provided in this list are for reference purposes only. An actual move may take more or less time, depending on several factors, such as access to the building, location of parking, number of flights of stairs, etc.

These time estimates do not include flat travel time of one hour.

Travel Time/Truck fee

One hour travel time/truck fee covers for cost of gas, milage, movers wades during the time of getting to the loading and back from unloading locations to the company office is charged for all local moves within Ottawa in radius of 20 km form city hall.

If pickup or drop off locations are located 20 km or more from city hall additional travel time will apply.

Binding Estimates

With a Written Binding Estimate for your move, the price we quote is the price you pay! A Written Binding Estimate is the correct legal term for a “flat” price, as opposed to an hourly estimate. An on-site moving estimate is required in order for Ottawa Best Movers to provide a Written Binding Estimate and is based on the inventory of goods to be moved and services to be provided. As we have an opportunity to physically evaluate the goods, we are able to offer a flat price. If inventory of items changes during the move, Ottawa Best Movers will recalculate and provide a revised estimate. A flat rate is usually 15% to 20% higher then an hourly rate.

Long distance moving.

Ottawa Best Movers provides long distance moving from Greater Ottawa to Montreal, Kingston and Toronto.

Walk ups/stairs

Ottawa Best Movers may charge extra fee for stairs.

Walk up = stairs to different levels in your home or apartment.

If you have less than 6 stairs we will not count it as walk up.

Not applicable for buildings with elevator, ground level, garage.

Applicable for basements, second level and above

Packing/Unpacking

The services of packing and unpacking during the move are performed at the regular moving rates. You are only charged the straight hourly rate for all labor services, there is no surcharge while Ottawa Best Movers moving crew is packing and/or unpacking. Hourly rate does not include packing materials.

Basic Disassembly/Reassembly

The services of basic disassembly of items such as basic bed frames (with no drawers), dining tables are performed at the same hourly rate as the move. Movers will not disassemble any item that include electrical connection such treadmills, fridge doors with electrical connections, hospital beds, exercise equipment or any other equipment that includes wiring. You are only charged the straight hourly rate for all labor services, there is no surcharge for disassembling basic items. However for re-assembly of basic items Ottawa Best Movers may charge extra fee - please contact our representative for more information.

Advanced Disassembly/Reassembly

Disassembly and reassembly of items such as wardrobes, built-ins armoires and some wall units is completed by a furniture specialist. There is an extra charge for these services. Please speak to your project manager should you require such services, as Ottawa Best Movers representative may need to view the items prior to the move to estimate the cost and work required.

Extra heavy items

Ottawa Best Movers may charge extra fee for items over 150 lb (e.g. big treadmills, safes, over sized file cabinets, marble tables, double door fridges, front loaded washers) if those items need to be moved up or down stairs.

If no stairs are involved, addition fee is not applicable.

Items over 275 LB ( pianos, pool tables, over size safes, machinery, commercial kitchen equipment) can only be moved from main level to main level and will be charged 250$ flat fee due to high liability cost.

Please advice our representative if you have such items before your moving day as additional movers or truck with lift gate might be required.
